M Pharma Pharmacogonosy
Pharmacognosy is a focal component of M. Pharm at Rameshwaram Institute of Technology and Management (RITM). It is one of the randiest disciplines of pharmacy which involves plants, animals, microorganisms, and their natural products with special attention to medicines and their uses. As a core part of the M. Pharm degree program, Pharmacognosy enables learners to appreciate the natural products’ potential in health and medicine.
At RITM, the Pharmacognosy course aims at providing students with both theoretical and practical knowledge on plant constituents, phytochemistry, and other related plants’ activities. Students learn about plant recognition and extraction methodologies, isolation of bioactive compounds, in addition to quality control processes all through practical, field, and classroom lectures.
The course highlights the relevance of evaluating botanical verification and authentication to the quality of herbal medicines. The students appreciate the pharmacological effects of natural products using bioassay methods and modern methods of chromatographic, spectroscopic, and electro-kinetic techniques.
Additionally, RITM emphasizes interdisciplinary education by conjoining Pharmacognosy with other fields of pharmacy such as pharmacology, pharmaceutical chemistry, and pharmaceutics. Such integration helps to cultivate students' understanding of the processes involved in drug discovery and development.
The M.Pharm Pharmacognosy program at RITM is distinguished by its focus on practical training. Students participate in phytochemical analysis, formulate herbal medicines, and assess their quality. They also take part in research projects that study the use of natural products for treatment in a variety of diseases.
RITM faculty are well-versed in teaching and research. They act as mentors to students taking Pharmacognosy and guide them to further develop the field and the pharmaceutical sciences in general.
The school equips students to work in pharmaceutical research, the herbal drug industry, regulatory affairs, and in academia, ensuring they are prepared for global healthcare challenges with well-calibrated knowledge, especially pertaining to natural products.
